5 fabulous cocktail cupcake recipes to bring a little frivolity to your baking

Combining two of the best things in life, to make something even better

Somethings in life are just meant to be together. Fish and chips, strawberries and cream, James May and cheese, and… Cocktails and cupcakes. Okay, so the last one might not be as well known as the others, but it very much should be. We decided it would be a great idea to combine two of the best things in life. Turns out, the result is even greater than the sum of its parts.

Whether your favourite drink is an Espresso Martini, a Piña Colada, a Gin & Tonic, a Strawberry Daiquiri, or a Mojito, have we got the cupcake recipes for you. All these cupcakes have got alcohol in, so they are very much adult only, but kids usually get all the good stuff right. Time for a treat for us grown-ups.

We baked all these cupcakes using the Tefal Cake Factory. It’s basically a smart little oven that helps you make perfectly cooked cakes, muffins, traybakes etc., every time. We love baking, but it’s always a bit sad when you spend a while getting everything together, pop it in the oven, and for whatever reason, it fails.

However, you won’t get that issue with the Tefal Cake Factory. As it’s clever, it constantly monitors and changes the temperature while your cakes are cooking, to ensure whatever you’ve got in there is perfectly cooked. No soggy bottoms around here, thank you very much. Apart from the fact that it hasn't stopped raining for the whole of August. But that's a different story and doesn't have much to do with cake...

Despite having a whole host of recipe ideas in the Tefal Cake Factory app, we wanted to go rogue, try something new, and combine two of the best things in life: cocktails, and cupcakes.

We got busy in the kitchen, and came up with these five delicious recipes. We hope you enjoy them. We're still trying to pick our favourite...

Pina Colada cupcakes

If you like Pina Coladas, and eating cake in the rain, these are the cupcakes for you. We’re having a pretty soggy summer here in the UK, but these Pina Colada cupcakes will definitely brighten your day – and not just because they’ve got a bit of rum in them. Combining all the classic flavours of everyone’s favourite tropical cocktail – rum, coconut and pineapple – this is the taste of summer, in a cupcake.

Mojito cupcakes

Is there a better combination in life than rum, lime, a little sweetness, and herby mint? In a drink, it's pretty perfect, but it turns out you can improve on an original. That's why we've made these Mojito cupcakes, featuring all the flavours of the cocktail, but with the added improvement of… cake.

We're all craving a holiday right now, and we are need a little more sunshine in our lives. Whether that's from the actual sun... or from these cupcakes. Okay, so the cakes might contain a little less Vitamin D than the big yellow guy in the sky, but they do contain just as much happiness.

Gin & Tonic cupcakes

Gin and tonic flavoured things are everywhere. We've seen the good (these cupcakes), the bad (candles, crisps), and the ugly (yoghurt, cheese, ketchup... ok so we made that one up, but our point still stands). While liking gin isn't a personality type, it is delicious, and caputuring the flavours of a citrussy G+T in a cake is downright delish.

If you're looking for some ginspiration for your next baking gincounter, time to think like a gin-ius, escape the ginsanity of life and bake up a batch of these. And apologies for the ginflux of groan-ginducing puns. Some might say we've over-gin-dulged, or gin too far, but we've ginjoyed ourselves...

Chocolate Espresso Martini cupcakes

Turns out, the flavours of an Espresso Martini lend themselves to all kinds of other food stuffs – and that includes cake. The combination of coffee and chocolate is also a well-known one, and adds an extra dimension to these treats. We love the hit of coffee and vodka you get from the syrup, and how it makes the cakes even more moist. This has got to be one of the best ways to get your daily caffeine hit. Maybe even start the day with a nice cup of cake to perk you up...

Strawberry Daiquiri cupcakes

If someone asked you to think of a fruity cocktail, we bet your mind would immediately go to a refreshing, fun, fruity, frivolous... Strawberry Daiquiri. Probably, a frozen one. They are a little boozy, a little easy to drink, and a lot of fun. However, it doesn't always make sense to drink a frozen strawberry daiquiri in the depths of winter… For us, it's screams summer. But, when you turn a strawberry daiquiri cocktail into a strawberry daiquiri cocktail cupcake, all bets are off, and you could be chomping on one of these babies all year round, or even in the snow. No judgement here.

Which cocktail cupcake do you like the sound of best?

  • I have to ask - are there extra moulds available to buy with the Tefal Cake Factory? I like what I see in general, but I wish some smaller moulds for cookie-like sweets.
