5 tips to stay healthy during quarantine

...from an actual expert

Recently I’ve realized that I’m procrastinating much more than I usually do, despite having nothing else to do. I decided to reach out to my friend @Agustin Martos, physical trainer for CD Tenerife football team, so he could give me some advice on how to stay sane during this time.

This is what he said:

1. Have a routine

“One of the most important things to consider during quarantine is to have a routine from when you wake up to when you go to sleep. Make a plan of what you have to do, and when you are going to do it during the week – with a time for each task so you are materializing it."

2. Exercise

"Squats, push-ups, hamstring curls... You don't need any equipment to do basic gymnastics at home! The recommendation is for an hour every day, but keep this in mind: "It’s very important to keep your own condition in mind because each individual has different needs. The best thing you can do is contact a professional to make you a customized workout routine adapted to you and your needs and limitations. Avoid falling for the 'new workout magicians' that are so popular on social media lately."

3. Don't forget to work out your mind!

"If you are sharing a space with others, board games are a great way to keep your mind active – or, you can play reaction games to keep your neuromuscular connections activated."

4. Reduce those calories

"It’s obvious that we need to adjust our diet to this situation because, even if you work out for an hour, we are not consuming the same calories we normally do. This is another case where you should contact a nutritionist to study your needs and work accordingly – but in general, we should slightly reduce the calories of our dishes."

5. Go back to old hobbies

"In addition to all that, we now have a lot of free hours to use. It’s the perfect time to go back to the hobbies that you have abandoned for lack of time, like playing instruments, crafts, etc. "

Caveat: If you go for the musical instrument... We are not responsible for your neighbours' reactions.
