55% of Italians console themselves with food against Covid anxiety

Strange. Who would have thought?

The first lockdown left people with anxiety, depression, insomnia and hypochondria. Now that we are starting the second, it's likely all these conditions will increase a lot.

Apparently 55% of Italians, especially women, have reacted to lockdown by finding comfort in food (I feel very 'seen' right now... who knows why). This was the result of a survey conducted by Sinu (Italian Society of Human Nutrition).

In particular, 48% of the interviewees consoled themselves with comfort food – fantastic for immediate gratification but harmful in the long run.

To try to manage these emotional storms, it seems that B vitamins are useful, because they help neurons and neurotransmitters, counteracting negative moods and calming the nervous system.

Vitamin B12, present in broccoli and dairy products, is a really good thing to eat more of, as it prevents surplus homocysteine, which is linked to depression.

In short, less pizza and more yoghurt? What do you think about it? Tell me in the comments!

  • Interesting...πŸ‘Œ thanks Valentina. This year is wierd and not cool πŸ˜” I drink peppermint tea, eat nuts, fruits , vegetables and usually eat dark chocolate of course in balanced amounts which positively affets mood and relief depressive symptoms. What's more I don't watch or read lots of news about what is going on at the moment because barely can stand it πŸ˜’

    • I also watch little news, but these days I try to understand what I can or cannot do. I am not eating well, I admit it. And I miss being able to walk in nature.
