AB InBev wants to offload some brands including Franziskaner

Now, this is news

AB InBev (AB stands for Anheuser-Busch InBev) is the VW Group of beers: if there’s a brand you like, chances are it is owned by AB InBev. The Belgian corporation usually makes headlines when it buys new beer companies but for once, it seems they’re thinking about offloading some of the brands under their giant umbrella.

AB owns over 630 beer brands in 150 countries - including Corona, Leffe, Beck’s, Budweiser and Stella Artois - but Michel Doukeris, the new CEO, wants to reduce debt by selling off some of the marques that aren’t pulling their own weight.

According to Bloomberg, among the big names that AB wants to get rid of, we find Franziskaner Weissbier, Hasseroeder and Spaten, worth a combined €1 billion ($1.2 billion). The money they’d get from selling these companies would also help finance AB’s plan to acquire companies that specialise in different types of drinks that are in demand, such as canned wine, canned cocktails and of course hard seltzers.
