Aber Falls launches first whisky made in North Wales for more than 100 years

Introducing the Aber Falls Distillery 'Inaugural Release'

Aber Falls is a Welsh distillery based in one of those towns in Wales with an unpronounceable name: Abergwyngregyn. All jokes aside, Aber Falls has just released a new single malt whisky, produced using 100% Welsh malted barley and water from the nearby Aber Falls waterfall. They call it the 'Inaugural Release’.

The new whisky is distilled in copper and aged in European and American Bourbon and Sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, and priced at £45. James Wright, managing director of Aber Falls Distillery, said the the goal is to bring the price down to £30 for future releases, planned for late 2021/early 2022.

Wright said this is just the start, as Aber Falls is planning to launch new products every year. "We have 135 brewers in Wales and four grain distillers,” Wright said. “With European yields going down as it gets warmer, it makes sense to grow a crop that is pretty hardy. It’s also a win-win: with the right yield it can go into the food chain, and byproducts can also be added to the food chain.”
