Aldi is selling a glass toaster to take the guesswork out of breakfast

Watch it toasting, stop when it's perfect. Genius

I love toast. Not just for breakfast but for lunch, sometimes for a snack, put beans on it with some cheese and you have a dinner. It's winning, as foods go. I live with someone who also loves toast, but we absolutely do not have the same toast.

As much as toast is a diverse wonder of the food world, the diversity available for every slice is an issue. I like toast to be toast – brown, crispy, an unhealthy amount of butter, I want to hear the crunch. My other half likes his toast...sort of yellow, anaemic, a bit floppy. Like he threatened to toast it and left it at that. Do not want.

Our toaster is a stylish shiny brushed metal job, very nice to look at but nothing short of a guessing game when it comes to doing its job. We tend to keep it on low so he gets his frightened bread and then I'll put mine in multiple times, till it's good. A faff, I'm sure you'll agree. But I know we are not the only household with this issue...

Aldi has what can only be described as The Solution: a glass toaster. Not something I would have considered when designing my kitchen, but the perfect implement for breakfast satisfaction.

It has a long slot so your bready beauties are both visible, and you can watch to ensure it is no more or less toasted than you want. When you see perfection, hit that cancel button and revel in that toasty goodness.

The cost of this stroke of genius? £25. We love you Aldi.

    • I love all the science of watching the water boil and the tea brewing inside the kettle when it reaches boiling point.

  • YAY! That's brilliant! I just know I'm going to be staring thru the glass everytime. Will be like watching morning TV but more exciting. Anyone seen this somewhere other than Aldi? Don't care for their business model much.
