Are you a part of this 80%?

According to a survey, almost three-quarters of men would rather die 10 years early than give up meat.

The survey was commissioned by No Meat May, a group that encourages people to give up meat for a month to combat climate change, global food scarcity, health problems and animal cruelty.

A total of 1,000 people were asked and 81% of respondents said they cared about the climate crisis, whereas 79% said that they were not willing to give up meat in order to fight climate change.

In addition to this, it was also exposed that the more meat in a diet the more masculine it was perceived to be by males and females. A whopping 47% of participants viewed eating meat as being a 'masculine undertaking'. – do you agree with this?

The group's co-founder, Ryan Alexander, said: "What was perhaps most shocking, was that 73% of male respondents said they'd rather reduce their life expectancy by up to 10 years than give up eating meat, with three-quarters of men not convinced of the health benefits of a meat-free diet, despite the mounting evidence to the contrary.

"Significant research over many years has shown that eating meat and other animal products increases the risk of developing certain cancers, heart disease, obesity and having a reduced life expectancy, not to mention being one of the biggest contributors to global warming and the destruction of our environment."

Could you give up eating meat?

  • I sure hope you can synthesize meat protein at a reasonable pace and large scale in the foreseeable future. Steak is just too damn delicious.

  • Lab-grown meat and vegetable-based "meats" might be the options that satisfy both sides. Meat production requires quite a lot of resources and energy and it isn't even efficient, plus cows farts does more harm to the environment than cars:) It's not really about climate change but more about energy efficiency and sustainability
