Angelenos are urged to stay at home—and that includes trips to the grocery store

Officials in Los Angeles are asking everyone to skip the trip to the grocery store right now.

We’re all practising social distancing, but now officials are asking Angelenos to stay put for the week – and that includes visits to the local market.

LA County public health director Barbara Ferrer urged residents to skip shopping trips and stay at home entirely.

During a press conference on Monday April 6, she said, “If you have enough supplies in your home, this would be the week to skip shopping all together.”

According to ABC News, the request comes as the number of coronavirus cases in LA County have reached 6,000. The county’s death toll is 147.

Ferrer said people at higher risk, including the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, need to stay at home except for medical visits.

She did, however, encourage residents to make use of grocery delivery services.

“We have some very difficult days ahead, and now is the time for all of us to redouble our physical distancing efforts,” said Ferrer. “As we expect to see a significant increase in cases over the next few weeks, we are asking that everyone avoid leaving their homes for anything except the most urgent matters.”
