Are your pets snobbish about food?

And what kind of food do you buy?

Most pet owners know this feeling pretty well, especially cat owners.

Your beloved kitty is looking at you with eyes full of desire, meowing in impatience in front of your human slowness. You open the can of cat food, but once the food is in the bowl, your cat takes one look at the delicious meal you've decanted in front of their regal eyes... and looks at you as if you've just served them the most disgusting thing on the planet.

Cats have an attitude that's worse than every food critic who's walked on God's sweet earth. The cat walks away, sashays away, with a last glance of disappointment in your direction. You're left with a feeling of deep shame and embarrassment, as if you've just disappointed Her Majesty the Queen, and left thinking about the 10 cans of expensive cat food you've now got stuck in the cupboard.

How many times did you get fooled by the wide choice in pet store shelves? Personally, I've been fooled a lot. There are plenty of brands out there. I try to buy pet food with a high content of meat or fish, and vegetables. There are some which look like a dish on a gourmet restaurant menu: lobster with passion fruit, lamb with sweet potatoes, Norwegian salmon with peas, and so on. If it wasn't made for cats, I'd be tempted to give some of them a try.

But no matter how great the food sounds, I still get the same reaction from the rightful queens of the house.

Is that just me? What have you found that cats can't get enough of?

  • For Blaze I usually have to buy one of each flavor and type that is on the shelf and of course he tends to not care for the healthier options.

    • Hahaha that's a good method, I do that too, but sometimes they dislike the whole brand of food 🤦‍♀️

  • I can confirm guinea pigs aren't fussy. In fact, they'll gnaw on wood.

  • My cat really only eats one brand and sort of food. She flat out rejects anything else. Except for treats.

    • So nasty! 😂

Mines also are picky with hard food, but kitten stuff is not very suitable for adults, it's too proteic or something the veterinary said to me
