A man has been jailed after holding up a McDonald's at gunpoint and demanding Nuggs.

Rudi Batten, a 22-year-old man from Gloucestershire, was sentenced to six years in jail for robbery at McDonald’s in Yate. On February 8, Batten held one of the employees behind the counter at gunpoint, while also holding a knife in his other hand, and demanded Chicken McNuggets.

However, he eventually had to walk away with a McMuffin because it was 7am in the morning and the breakfast menu was the only thing available.

He also grabbed the cash from the till.

Unbelievably, this was actually Batten's second robbery in two days, as he'd done the exact same thing at Miss Millie's the night before.

CCTV footage of the robber led to Batten’s arrest as the police retrieved some of the clothes that he was wearing during the robbery as well as the gun, which turned out to be a 177 air pistol.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of robbery and one count of possessing a knife or blade in a public place.

During the robbery, Batten reportedly said: "I'm being forced into doing this". The defence said, "He is horrified he behaved in this way. He is deeply deeply sorry he committed these offences. The lack of sophistication, the lack of any disguise are indicative of the desperation with which these offences were committed".

Batten was reportedly trying to pay back a drug-related debt and committed the crime out of fear of what would happen to his family if he could not repay his debt.

Bristol Judge William Hart said, "The staff were clearly terrified as anyone would be. It's the last thing people would expect in a quiet takeaway in that part of the country". He also ordered the forfeiture of the stolen money and the firearm.

  • OK, he also ordered the forfeiture of the stolen money and the firearm. But what about McMuffin? Or judge made him eat it as a part of punishment. Or did he pay back a drug-related debt with it? Did he use ill-gotten cash to pay for McNuggets? So many questions...!
