You’re having delicious meat-free burgers for dinner, why should breakfast be any different?

Beyond Meat (the guys behind the plant-powered Beyond Burger) have just announced their launching breakfast sausage - and you can buy it in stores.

You’ll be able to find it in the frozen breakfast section, and the patty comes in two flavors: classic and spicy. Costing $4.99, the Beyond Breakfast Sausage is frozen and ready to eat in five minutes. They’ve got 35% less saturated fat and sodium than pork sausage.

A few stores - including Albertsons, Key Foods, and Whole Foods - will have the new meat-free products by the end of this month.

“Our Beyond Breakfast Sausage platform delivers on our promise of enabling consumers to Eat What You Love while advancing health, environmental and animal welfare benefits. It has seen early success at some of the most popular and iconic quick service restaurants and we are excited to introduce the first extension of the platform in retail. It's been a staple in my own household and I'm glad that families can now enjoy this delicious breakfast option at home.” - Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO.

Beyond first launched the product back in July last year when they teamed up with Dunkin’ to test breakfast sausage on its egg and cheese sandwich.

And they’re not the only ones vying for your breakfast dollars. Impossible Foods (Beyond’s big rival) recently launched the Impossible Sausage Croissan’wich at some Burger King stores.

A reporter from CNET took a trip to Beyond’s R&D headquarters in Los Angeles to err… see how the sausage is made, literally.

Caroline Roberts wrote: “There were devices that could measure smells, mechanical mouths and individual testing rooms -- at times I felt like I was in a Breaking Bad laboratory. But at the end of the day, I thought that the Beyond Breakfast Sausage tasted pretty darn good (and this is coming from someone who enjoys pork breakfast sausage).

One notable aspect of the Beyond Meat Breakfast Sausage is the ingredient list -- it doesn't contain any GMOs, soy, gluten, nitrates, nitrites, antibiotics or hormones. Beyond avoids these ingredients to distinguish themselves from its competitors who use GMOs and soy.”

  • While I appreciate the information, my inner Ron Swanson tells me I can’t eat these.
